A step-by-step look into our creative process — from concept sketches to final delivery — with real client case studies that show the “why” behind the work.
A logo is more than just a mark — it’s a first impression, a reputation, and a visual handshake all in one. At Three Nautical Miles, we treat logo design as both art and responsibility. Every project we take on starts with one goal in mind: create something that feels real to the people it represents.
Designing a logo isn’t just about what looks good — it’s about what makes sense. That’s why our process is rooted in purpose, clarity, and collaboration. Let’s walk you through how we do it.
Step 1. Discovery & Listening
Every logo begins with a conversation. We ask the right questions to get to the core of your brand:
-
What do you stand for?
-
Who are you trying to reach?
-
What does success look like to you?
Whether it’s a school initiative, nonprofit campaign, or a small business launch, we take time to listen. Because great design doesn’t come from guessing — it comes from understanding.
Step 2. Research & Inspiration
We study your field, your competitors, your audience, and your story. Then we collect visual references, font pairings, and color inspirations that match your tone and message. We also look for what to avoid — ensuring your brand doesn’t blend in, but stands apart.
Step 3. Sketching Concepts
Here’s where creativity meets intention. We start sketching rough ideas — by hand or digitally — and play with shapes, symbols, and type. At this stage, we don’t aim for perfection. We aim for potential.
We often explore 4–6 core ideas, then narrow them down to 2–3 strong contenders.
Step 4. Refinement & Feedback
We present you with logo options and explain the thinking behind each one. What does it communicate? How does it align with your audience? We want you to see the strategy, not just the design.
We then collaborate through 1–2 rounds of revisions based on your feedback until it’s exactly right.
Step 5. Final Delivery
Once approved, we deliver your logo in multiple formats — full color, black-and-white, transparent, and print-ready — along with any style guidelines you need to stay consistent across platforms.
“A great logo doesn’t just represent your brand — it reflects your purpose. Our job is to uncover that purpose and design something that stands the test of time.” — Anthony League, Founder, Three Nautical Miles, LLC
